Landscape of Telemachus on the Island of Calypso:

The scenic wallpaper displayed in the Entrance Hall of the Hermitage Mansion, titled "Paysage de Telemaque dans I'ile de Calypso" (Landscape of Telemachus on the Island of Calypso) is adapted from Francois Fenelon's 1699 book "Les aventures de Telemaque, fils d'Ulysse" (The Adventures of Telemachus, son of Ulysses). The novel was inspired by Homer's "Odyssey" and details Telemachus' encounters and lessons learned while in search of his father.

Andrew Jackson's wife Rachel selected the wallpaper made by Joseph Dufour in Paris, France for the original mansion in 1821. After the devastating house fire in 1834, Jackson insisted the wallpaper be replaced. The 1836 version is seen in the mansion Entrance Hall today.
